Lenovo to launch Vibe Shot camera phone on September 22 in India

Chinese company Lenovo is all set to launch its camera-centric Vibe Shot phone in India on September 22. The company will be holding a digital launch event via video sharing website YouTube, instead of going for a more traditional launch in front of a live audience. This means everyone can witness the launch of the Vibe Shot live using YouTube starting at 12PM IST, on September 22 by simply going to this link .

The Vibe Shot was first announced by Lenovo at the Mobile World Congress event held in Barcelona earlier this year. The phone was recently showcased to select tech journalists through an interactive photography workshop organised by Lenovo in New Delhi. The workshop - that was curated by Hannah Reyes, a photographer from Nat Geo Creative - gave journos a first-hand look of the Vibe Shot, specifically its camera capabilities.

The Vibe Shot is first and foremost a camera-phone, something that is accentuated by its point-and-shoot camera looks. The phone sports a 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilisation, autofocus and a tripleLED flash. It also includes an 8-megapixel camera on the front.

Rest of its specifications are in line with what you expect from a mid-range phone (possibly around the Rs.20,000 price bracket). It comes with a 5-inch FullHD IPS display with a 1080x1920 pixels resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

It is rocking a 1.7 GHz Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor coupled with 3GB RAM. It comes with 32GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.

The dualSIM phone runs Android 5.0.2 Lollipop with the company's own Vibe UI on top. Connectivity options include: Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual band, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS with A-GPS, 4G LTE among others. It uses a 3,000 mAh battery which is non-removable.

On the face of it, the Vibe Shot looks a lot like the Motorola Moto X Play, that was recently launched in India at a very aggressive price of Rs.18,499 for the 16GB variant and Rs.19,999 for the 32GB one. The Vibe Shot certainly holds an edge - on paper - in the camera department, but the Play gives you stock Android Lollipop and Moto X's trademark Active Display and Touchless control functions.

Motorola Mobility is owned by Lenovo, so it would be interesting to see how the two phones fair in market. Of course, it would also depend on how Lenovo prices the Vibe Shot, but considering the hardware, we are looking at an aggressive pricing here as well.
